Description
Comercial Name: Velutina
Its short stem supports many succulent leaves that turn from moss-green to fuchsia in a few days if exposed to the glare of intense sunlight.
Tillandsia brachycaulos v. abdita grows epiphyte in Central America at elevations of 600 to 1200 meters. The slightly succulent nature of its leaves makes of T. brachycaulos a tough and dry growing species. The green leaves blush and turn radiant red depending on the intensity of the light they receive and the humidity of the environment. Sunlight accelerates T. brachycaulos growing, until it arrives approx. 25 cm. wide and 15 cm. tall.
Etymology
Brachycaulos: combination of Greek adjective brachys, “short”, and the noun caulos, “stem”.
